At some point the devs were looking for this feature with a BF silo, can't confirm if this is in the works but there was a notable tendency. All we can do is wait and don't lose hope.
I don't recall devs saying they liked floating resources more, that would be such a silly response to a serious problem, in fact they said the BF silo could help with performance so they might try doing it.
Sorry missed this tag at the time. What Matt said is right, storing resources in the silos instead of in a floaty beam would absolutely improve performance. The beams are quite resource intensive, especially when there's a large amount. @Kris should know if/what the plan is for silos with no holding beams.
As someone who spent tons of time in modded Minecraft with numerous mega modpacks from 2009 to present, I'm partial to changing the whole crafting system from "items loosely held onto conveyors/silos by energy beams" to "items traveling through tubes and stored in containers". So many problems could go away from render issues to the fabrication bugs caused by literal race conditions to mobile setups not dropping stuff when hitting bumps. There could be transparent tubes and containers for the people who really want to see their stuff moving around and opaque tubes and containers for people who prefer performance. Better Future could be like an Applied Energistics setup where instead of items physically moving its all stored as energy and instantly moves to its destination (It'd just be another opaque tube with 0 travel time inside the tube).
Yeah, you'd lose the ability to stack silos for cheesy space savings, but that's glitchy anyway with resources spazzing out and sometimes being flung off.
