I could get behind the idea of all blocks having a small shield generator that can interlace with others. I actually made a suggestion like that not too long ago. Adding more shield generators would simply enhance the total shield strength, and their might be diminishing returns. However, switching to this scheme does remove a bit of the tactical element from combat. Of course I don't think much of anything will be done to the combat mechanics for at least a year, if ever. The devs clearly don't consider anything but console ports and multiplayer to be important.
