Imagine this, you're making a helicopter and you can go up and down, but you can't turn (efficiently with hover controls). Solution: make it so we can set what keys would activate a component. You could place a hawkeye fan rotor on the back and set forward to [D] and backward to [A] to turn the tail left and right. You could do this with forward and back too, place a horizontal fan rotor on the back (so it's facing up) set forward to [W] and back to.

Key mapping is really commonly suggested (it’s a great idea) and I think the devs are working on implementing it though I’m not sure
