Hey guys, a few of you may have been experiencing problems uploading files recently. Just to clarify, the new upload limit is:-

3 files per post
File size limit is now 1mb

This is part of an effort to prevent the forum from getting too bloated, and prevent multiple issues we've been having recently. If possible, it would be preferable if you upload your images to a photo sharing site like Imgur, and post the link. With Imgur you can get images to display without users having to click the link, so it shouldn't cause too much hassle ;)

If you need to post unusually large output logs, you can always try zipping them up, or emailing them to us at help@terratechgame.com, with a description of your problem or a link to the forum thread.

Save games rarely get above 1mb, but if they do and you need to share them with us, email is the best way to go.

Cheers everyone :)

Ahh... I ran into the 1MB file limit earlier, trying to share 4 tech snapshots zipped up together (ended up going with Dropbox). The issue was the error message was nondescript, and I initially thought the connection to the site was being flaky (as it often is, require page reloads, for me). If it could say something more specific that'd be handy (though not exactly a priority, thanks).

Probably because you're trying to upload a .zip? I'm not sure how much control we have over the wording of errors -- as it's a XenForo back end thing.

Nah, same with images. A new forum user trying to report a crash ran into this yesterday too, by the looks of it: https://forum.terratechgame.com/index.php?threads/ummmm.12171/#post-75707
Forum Upload error with 2MB image.jpg

And drag-dropping in a big image, or file, fails without saying anything (tripped me up too the other day).

I can sympathise with the difficulties of XenForo, though, from experience watching the Terraria community forum team struggling repeatedly with it's limits (particularly group permissions and such).

Also, while talking of site errors, I get this come up a whole lot, having to reload pages a lot for it. But it's not caused me to loose any posts I'm writing, despite reloads, so no biggie. Don't know if it's specific to my ISP (Virgin), or hosting...

.zips seem to be permitted irrespective of file namelength or if the filename has extended ascii.

along with dropbox I can also recommend the following based on personal experience:

https://cubeupload.com (Does not compress .png images; permitting the transfer of tech pngs.)

https://uploadfiles.io (5Gb limit)

https://pastebin.com (Excellent for massive textbased files where formatting retention is vital (.xml / vrml back in the day / etc)

Cubeupload should permit the png image of a tech to be merely embedded via the pictureframe button; and none of the three listed require userlogin.

Send me the zip you are trying to upload.
:confused:bugbotconfusedo_Oskepticalvincent.... This is the 2MB zip file from the first screenshot I posted above: https://www.dropbox.com/s/8zfajk17y...opulation Techs (Renamed) 2017-07-18.zip?dl=1

.... This is the ~2MB test image file from the second screen shot (my current desktop background): https://www.dropbox.com/s/ryrwej9ralcxrhp/HPIM3350.JPG?dl=1

And this is another of the "Error 502 Bad Gateway" messages I just randomly got when clicking "reply" to write this post (unrelated to either upload):
Error 502 Bad Gateway.jpg
I use Firefox, and have disabled ad-blocker on the site to be sure, don't think either is relevant though and this isn't a big problem, tbh.

That explains so much.
