Back in the olden days of 22XX, a government organization called GSO produced a technology called "terratech". Terratech was a collection of blocks that could be attached together through special nodes manually or by transporting it through dimensions. Some of these blocks were weapons, others cosmetics, utility, ect etc. At this time, Terratech would only be used on earth military operations. eventually, two defectors made a fortune off of selling their own illegal terratech blocks, the mad scientist who owned venture and the mechanical genius who owned geocorp. Venture was designed to avoid the government on-planet, and geocorp took to the stars to begin selling resources to earth. After the public discovered the terratech defectors, the government declassified terratech technology, allowing geocorp to operate with greater efficiency, and venture no longer had to run from the law to exist, and transformed into a high-class sports vehicle producer and TV entertainment producer. After a while, the government stopped monitoring Terratech, and owners of the technology had practically free reign over the stars and the economy. Life was luxury for tech owners, until the 4th corporation showed up: Hawkeye. Born from one who vastly improved upon the GSO blueprints, hawkeye was a totalitarian regime. After being practically squashed by the other corporations, their technology was too good to be lost, and was instead sold to the more lawless parts of the galaxy, where anyone could use any corporations technology, so long as they didn't kill each other and by extension themselves. A marketing genius and equally hypebeast made the corporation Better Future, with funding from the remains of GSO. If it weren't for his marketing, the exorbitant prices he put his terratech at would have squashed his sales, but he got models and entertainers (namely those associated with Venture) to market it. His chief engineer advanced hover technology from the quantum scale up to usable scales, and eventually made terratech with hovering tech to hold objects, eliminate the need of lubricant, and have nearly 0-friction transportation. Prospectors flocked to this technology despite the insane prices it came at, all in the name of fashion and speed. While all the hype was surrounding Better Future, no news stations found it profitable to report on the powerful weapons that the cult of Legion had stolen from the government facility, Reticule Research, along with some of their more... 'careless' employees.
