The lore thread for the Earth Space Squadron.

Founded in 2331, the Earth Space Squadron was an offshoot of the North European Confederation(NEUC) Void Arm(formerly the NEUC Space Corps). The ESS-SC-1 Avigon was the first ship capable of sublight interstellar travel, and despite taking 84 years and heavy damage the Avigon made it to ABX-924(later christened Siganni), having developed a method FTL travel, gravitic pulse propulsion along the way.

The ESS is the nemesis of the Earth Federation Forces for reasons described.

Attached is the ESS timeline up to the fourth millennium, as this is the period which TerraTech is concerned with.

No interaction with the other kingdoms is listed, because this is actually part of an outline of some books I want to complete at some point.

The ESS fleet has been dwarfed by the EFF throughout its entire history. Thus, it relies on advanced technologies that can completely change the battlefield in its favour. Examples include the gravitic pulse drive(first functional FTL technology), gravitational sensors, antimatter torpedoes, fully three-dimensional battle models and others.

A little concept art of the ESS(NEUCWS-ESS SCG-1391) Melody
She isn’t a very important ship in ESS history, but she was fun to draw.
ESS ships are pretty tiny compared to some of the monstrosities I’ve seen in RP, and even though this is a first-rate cruiser it’s far smaller than many of the ships by the kingdoms, like the TAC Valhalla,SFSS Armageddon and such, but she can definitely stand her own in this cruel universe.

Sorry if it looks badly furnished.
Whipped it up in half an hour.

Brief summary of ESS naval and land doctrine:
1. Avoid land battles until there is an extremely high possibility of victory with absolutely minimal losses.
2. Avoid head-to-head confrontations. Annihilate small parts of the enemy forces with superior assets taking minimal losses, then escape before significant threats appear.
3. Avoid large ships with unreasonable sizes and armaments. A 1.5-ton railgun projectile traveling at a third of the speed of light will instantly destroy any ship less than 100 million tons, and reasonably maul anything less than a billion(short scale). Therefore, small ships(cruiser-sized or less) are preferred.
4. Avoid trading forces whenever possible unless even in the worst-case scenario the losses justify the gains.

Tactics:
1. Remove defense grids from long range.
2. Evade projectiles whenever possible before attempting to intercept them.
3. Take advantage of every minute detail.
