With the BF battery being a quarter-circle, it's clear they are meant to be used externally. But when you combine four of them together, they look like a power storage core. This battery would be four BF bats welded into a cylinder with extra energy storage for about 4.25-4.5x the storage of a BF battery. Additionally, the recipe would require multiple hard-light drives to act as a containment field(lore-wise, there would not actually be a field). The containment field is one way, and its purpose is to protect the surrounding blocks in the event of a detonation. Basically a large battery that's non-volatile.

since it does use a containment field, it should use up a bunch of battery to explode non-volatile-ly, and they will still explode when out of battery
Although I like this idea, and it would balance it, you have to consider that it would be very difficult to code this in. A great way to balance it, but a bit too complex.
